Durham Northern Lights win Northern Ladder League 2005/6

1. Northern Lights (1666)
2. Jedi (1488)
3. York Ultimate (1456)

Events: 2
Games played: 11
Most active teams: Northern Lights, Too Many Pies

Durham arranged the first event in mid-Feb, with 5 teams attending in all. It was a great day for the hosts DUF / Northern Lights, who defeated the visiting regional champions' team from York by a 10 point margin, also seeing off challenges from Too Many Pies and DUF 2 (Northern Lights' second team).
Too Many Pies also showed promise for the season to come, defeating York in a tight game 9-7, but losing to the impressively able Durham second team 6-4.
A second event, part of the local "Christe Cup", saw Jedi notching up a couple of good wins against Boogie Knights and Fingers 6, but not enough for them to displace eventual Regional & Northern Ladder League champions Durham off from top of the table. Boogie Knights managed to beat Fingers6 8-6, and York held onto 3rd place behind Jedi.

At regionals, DUF fended off Jedi directly to take 1st place, the Phat Eds went through to Division 1 over Fingers 6, and Too Many Pies and York also qualified for Division 2.

Christie Cup sees Jedi dominate

More results from a recent handful of NULL games are in... These are from the 'Christie Cup' - Gareth Jones explains;
Boogie Knights, Fingers6 and Jedi played last Wednesday (22nd) as part of the Christie Cup and it was decided we'd count the games to the Ladder League. The results are:

Boogie Knights   8 - 6    Fingers6
Fingers6         4 - 9    Jedi
Boogie Knights   3 - 12   Jedi
On the table this means that Jedi move up into 2nd place behind the Northern Lights, Fingers 6 move up into the top 5, and the Boogie Knights move into 7th, just ahead of Northern Lights 2. Playing a couple of games when you get back from Easter will really further your position in the table - with the slow start even at the top, this could be the best shot you'll have at winning NULL for many a year, so get playing!

DUF take the lead, champions York stumble at the off

The results from the first ever NULL event are in!

The event was also attended by open team Newcastle Brown, which is great practice for the Northern Uni teams but results won't count towards the table, which has seen a change at the very top, as Durham step past York into the number 1 spot, Too Many Pies slide up to third place, and DUF 2 leap up the table in one deft bound, moving from 13th to 7th and threatening the position of well established first teams!

One of those first teams is Fish from Lancaster, but DUF 2 aren't going to stay ahead of them for long, as Fish have organised a NULL event of their own, due to take place this Sunday 26th Feb in Lancaster. Phat 'Eds and Fingers 6 will also be kicking off their NULL campaigns there, as well as York Ultimate attending to try and make up for their losses this weekend and show they still have what it takes to qualify for Nationals!

Check out the fixtures page to sign up for the Lancaster Fish event, and a report of the Durham event from Jack is to follow soon...

I've found out a bit more about the upcoming fixtures in Durham and Lancaster... Turns out they've had great responses from a variety of clubs, and in a couple of weeks we will see activity on the table from Fish, Northern Lights, Too Many Pies, Phat Eds, Disciples, Fingers 6, Newcastle Brown possibly, and regional champions York !
Not only am I looking forward to seeing how seven of the top eight seeds fare against each other, I'm also interested to see whether the northerners hold up to their reputation and start to dominate the 3 Pint Challenge table.

The first events of NULL '06 have been announced! Check out the following two emails from Northern Uni teams, and then go to the fixtures page to sign up! Don't miss out on some vital pre-regionals matches...
Hey everyone!

Lancaster Fish are planning to hold a one day outdoor tournament on Sunday 26th February. We are hoping to use the tournament as part of the Northern Ladder league. There will be a small cost to cover the hire of pitches for the day and we also hope to have a social afterwards.

Thanks,

Matt

Sorry for the short notice! Northern Lights are hosting a NULL playday next sunday. Hopefully at least a few teams can make it! And Newcastle you have no excuse....

There should be no charge for this event. To register interest, check out the fixtures page.

Thanks

Two events, one mid-west and one north-east of the region, a whole day's worth of play at each one... could really cause some exciting developments on the table. Are York going to go for the title after missing a place at indoor nationals? Will the Phat 'Eds go for the double, or even triple regional title win in 2005/2006? Can Fish's spirit prevail to earn them Ladder League victories? Or are Northern Lights going to bounce back in style and show they are the most active team in the region?

There's everything to play for, so get out there...

Today the Northern Uni Ladder League was started, with a short season commencing for Spring & Summer terms 2006, before a full ladder league season in the academic year 06/07. From experience, activity tends to drop off in the summer term as students have exams, so get as many games in for the spring term as you can. There are 10-12 weeks this term, so get planning now as to which weeks you're going to be hosting teams & which weeks you'll be visiting teams.
Results from Northern Outdoor Regionals, March 2005, used for seeding purposes:

1 York Ultimate
2 Northern Lights 1 (spirit)
3 Phat 'Eds
4 Fingers 6
5 Jedi 1
6 Too Many Pies
7 Northern Lights 2 (plate)
8 Fish
9 Disciples
10 Jedi 2
The following Uni teams also exist in the North - some came to Indoor Regionals in November 2005, others haven't been seen in a while; Hulltimate, Boogie Nights, Mute Animal Unit, and Flaming Monkeys.
If you have any questions, notice anything dodgy or inaccurate on this website, or if you want to volunteer to keep the website updated, don't hesitate to get in touch with Felix, or your regional coordinator Tom Howard.
Email Felix your contact details and team info for the teams page, check out the table to see where you're seeded, look at the teams page to see which teams practice near you, and then email them to make some fixtures!

Above all, enjoy, and keep playing ultimate,

Felix
