Dark Horses win Scotland Ladder League 2005/6

1. Dark Horses (1507)
2. Ro Sham Bo (1461)
3. Stirling Blaze (1403)

Events: 2
Games played: 5
Most active teams: Dark Horses, Stirling Blaze

Although Ro Sham Bo started well, setting the precident by hosting an event mid-Feb to get things started at home, the Dark Horses (Strathclyde, 7th seeds) were the surprise victors of the day, beating both Ro Sham Bo and Stirling Blaze by one point each, meaning they shot up to 2nd immediately, Ro Sham beat Blaze 11-10 so kept their place at the top of the table.
Ro Sham Bo 2 also played their only game of the season here, winning 10-5 against Stirling Blaze and moving up to 8th place, suggesting their second team might have a shot at Division 2 this year.
A month later, Dark Horses visited Shooting Stars, where the Strathclyde team completed their hatrick of one-point victories, displacing the one-win, one-loss Ro Sham Bo team from the number one spot and ultimately taking the Scotland Ladder League title.

Dark Horses were unlucky at regionals, losing out in a crossover but finishing 9th and taking the plate. Stirling Blaze qualified for Division 2 (narrowly missing out to Flatball in the Division 1 game to go), Ro Sham Bo 2 came 5th and Shooting Stars made the top 8. Ro Sham Bo 1 beat Far Flung in the Regionals final and went on to comfortably become Uni Open and Mixed National Champions 2006.

Another narrow victory for the Dark Horses

I received a mysterious email containing the following, very to-the-point text:
Wednesday 22nd March

Dark Horses 11 - 10 Shooting Stars

Played in Dundee
Check out the table to see how this affects things - Dark Horses have now peeped ahead of Ro Sham Bo at the top of the table - winning all three of their SULL games so far by just one point. Shooting Stars have done well to get such a close result against the table leaders, and have moved up to 6th.

Dark Horses live up to their name

This Saturday saw the first ever Scottish Uni Ladder League event, hosted by Ro Sham Bo in Edinburgh. There were four games played, with the Dark Horses emerging as the victors on the day. Indoor national champions Ro Sham Bo fought long and hard to a 10-9 victory against Stirling Blaze, and then had to face a fresh team, 7th seeds Dark Horses from Strathclyde. They fought hard again but it was to be Dark Horses' day as they finally beat Ro Sham 7-6, and went on to beat Blaze by one point in their last game too. For a full set of results see the results page.

The days play has caused some changes on the league table - Ro Sham Bo are still holding onto the top spot by fighting hard, but are now only 24 points ahead of the Dark Horses, who have remarkably shot straight up to 2nd place from 7th. Stirling Blaze are only 34 points behind in 3rd place, moving up from 5th by getting some points on the board this weekend (despite ultimately losing all their games), meaning Mojo, Flatball and Far Flung are pushed down to 4th, 5th and 6th respectively. Don't let the other clubs pull away - playing a handful of games can get you right back into it, so organise an event today!

SULL is go!

Received an email from regional champions Ro Sham Bo today, in the words of Candy:
Alright Felix, Ro Sham Bo have arranged a fixture with Stirling Blaze and possibly Strathclyde Dark Horses, for this Saturday Feb 18th, on the Meadows, Edinburgh, incase you want to put it on the fixture page. St. Andrews (Flatball) have also expressed some interest for a game some time in the future, so hopefully we'll get some more games soon.

Candy
Alright! Sounds like the outdoors season is kicking off for Scotland universities... Good luck to everyone playing this weekend, and I look forward to hearing about what Flatball have in store - it might give Abertay Avatars and Shooting Stars the opportunity to get some matches in before too!

Today the Scotland Uni Ladder League was started, with a short season commencing for Spring & Summer terms 2006, before a full ladder league season in the academic year 06/07. From experience, activity tends to drop off in the summer term as students have exams, so get as many games in for the spring term as you can. There are 10-12 weeks this term, so get planning now as to which weeks you're going to be hosting teams & which weeks you'll be visiting teams.
Results from Scottish Outdoor Regionals, March 2005, used for seeding purposes:

1. Ro Sham Bo
2. Positive Mojo
3. Flatball
4. Far Flung
5. Stirling Blaze
6. Ro Sham Bo 2
7. Shooting Stars
8. Dark Horses
9. Flatball 2
10. Mojo 2
11. Ro Sham Bo 3
12. Far Flung 2
The Abertay Avatars also exist as a new Uni team in Scotland - they came to Indoor Regionals in November 2005, but weren't seen at last year's outdoors.
If you have any questions, notice anything dodgy or inaccurate on this website, or if you want to volunteer to keep the website updated, don't hesitate to get in touch with Felix, or your regional coordinator Milla.
Email Felix your contact details and team info for the teams page, check out the table to see where you're seeded, look at the teams page to see which teams are based near you, and then email them to make some fixtures!

Above all, enjoy, and keep playing ultimate,

Felix
