Below I have copied more details about this Sunday's training day in Clapham. All women welcome! It will be a great day of skills and more importantly all women GAMES!!! Hope to see lots of people out!

-Meg
Hi all

Due to the responses, it looks like Sunday will be going ahead - I promise to make it a fun day!

So - a reminder, lets start at 10am at Clapham Common. The nearest tube is Clapham South, but the GB Open Juniors will be taking up the usual pitches, so we will be across the road playing by Eagle Pond.

Here is a map.

Come out of the tube station, go straight across the road, and then cross over another road and we will play on that grass.

Don't forget - bring a black and white t-shirt, a disc, bring food and drink (although there is a tesco's nearby, we won't be stopping too long for lunch), a bin-bag in case of rain and plenty of warm clothes!

Looking forward to seeing you all there
Di

Dear Women of the South,

Ltd Release will be holding a women's practice on Sunday 5 February 2006.
The practice is open to all experience levels and will concentrate on disc skills, cutting, and defence strategies; so if you are keen to learn more about throwing, making great grabs, faking out your defence and generally getting your confidence up, this is the time and place to do it!!

The practice will be at Southampton Sports Centre, Bassett - alongside the usual Ltd Release practice. Directions can be found on our website: www.ltdrelease.co.uk
Please arrive at 12 noon so we can plan the afternoon. The session should run until 3.30pm, then some well-earned drinks at the bar!

If you are coming to the practice and there is an area you would specifically like to work on, please email me (womens--at--ltdrelease.co.uk) or Emily (offence--at--ltdrelease.co.uk) so we can organise some drills.

Thanks
Katie Gould

A word from Meg about the upcoming Women's Skills Day in London on 4th December:

Hello,

Just a quick reminder that we do have a women's skills practice this Sunday at 1:30 in Hyde Park. (South side in between Hyde park Corner and the Albert Memorial, you will have to look amongst the footballers for some frisbees!)

All skill levels welcome. We will be focusing on throwing technique (including faking), cutting, and the strategy and execution of a successful dump and swing.

We also encourage women from the same club/university team to work together so that they can build on the connections that will serve them in a game situation, so groups are welcome!
Spread the word!

Hello All,

Just wanted to drop a quick email as I have scheduled two more women's skills/beginners practices to take place in Hyde Park before Christmas. We had an excellent practice despite high winds on Oct 30th and want to continue to provide structure and coaching for women who want to develop their game.

We ended up splitting into groups so that more experienced players could focus on specific skills and the beginners could learn about the basics. So really anyone in the beginner/intermediate range can gain from these sessions. In the new year we plan to offer these sessions on a fortnightly basis.

Please pass these dates along to any of your ladies who might be interested. They can send me their email addresses and be added to the group list that gets regular updates.

Sunday, 20th of November: 1:30 Hyde Park (southside near the Albert Memorial)

Sunday, 4th of December: 1:30 " " "

Regards,
Meg

The London Women's Skills Day, hosted by Iceni and Bliss, was a resounding success, with around 100 female UK Ultimate players converging from around the south to learn a variety of tricks and skills from some of the top women's players in the country. For a full report and photo, see the events page.

A similar skills day (inspired by women's ultimate events here in the south) was equally sucessful this weekend; the Northern Women's Skills Day, hosted by LLLadies, (the Leeds' women's team) and run by Mel Zloch, Clare Parker and Sally Fraser, saw 70 women in attendance learning all kinds of skills from different stations throughout the day.

A great weekend for women's ultimate - props to all the organisers who dedicate their time to making these things happen.

I've picked up on a rumour that the Iceni girls are up for visiting universities near London for freshers fairs to help at the ultimate frisbee stands... See what Maria Cahill says:
"We're particularly interested in helping recruit and retain women players. Not sure what help we can be exactly, but hoping to be able to rustle up a few volunteers to help man stands, throw discs around, show videos, talk people thru the game and hand out fliers or whatever else you'd like us to do.
I realise this is late notice, but if you would like Iceni help.... let us know dates time etc and we'll try to be around"
These girls can do a lot for recruiting both ladies and gentlemen into your club - how can you refuse an offer from the Iceni girls of doing anything you'd like them to do? Get emailing so your women's team can compete in women's indoor qualifiers and outdoor nationals!

An update on the university womens season ahead from Gemma:

Hi there...

Firstly, an introduction:

For those who are not aware, this year I'll be taking over the position of uni women's co-ordinator. My role is to act as a contact for the uni women's division. Any problems or questions about the women's game? I'm your lass to ask... (though I can't promise knowing the answer...)

So if you want to; find a team, find out about any upcoming women's tournaments, or you want help with starting up your own women's team...you can contact me any time by clicking here.

So what's in store for the women's game this year?

With term fast approaching, I thought it was about time to clarify the INDOOR season that lays ahead for women's uni ultimate...

Due to the massive over-subscription of UWIN, we will now be holding joint regionals across the country to determine qualification for nationals.

North + Midlands = 6 places
South East + South West = 6 places
Scotland = 3 places
Ireland = 1 place

Total = 16 team nationals!

For joint regions, nationals qualification will be awarded to the highest 6 teams in the tournament - regardless of region.

So that's 4 potential regionals around the country followed by a top 16 Nationals to finish off the season.

*Bidding Process*

The bidding process for nationals will be the same as the previous years... I.e. bids to me personally please with the unicoordinator@ukultimate cc'd.

Regional bids can be directed to the relevant regional coordinators.
In joined regionals, bids can be from either region - there is NO preference!

Regionals bids should be preferenced across the country for the weekends of:

21st / 22nd Jan
28th / 29th Jan

Nationals bids are looking for the weekends of:

18th / 19th Feb (backup)
25th / 26th Feb (Preferred)

*The Deadlines*

22nd October - EOI's for both regional and national events.
26th November - Bid deadline for regionals and nationals.

So, more women's tournaments.... more competition... sounds like a busy year!
Any issues or questions with the above, feel free to get in touch with me or you local regional coordinator.
www.ukultimate.com has all of our email addresses listed under the - university - committee section.

Cheers,

Gemma Taylor

Brunel University.

Welcome!
This webpage has been set up to act as a base for new, intermediate, and experienced women ultimate players in South & South East UK. With the help of the University Women's Coordinator, Gemma Taylor, we will be filling this page with as much information and material as we can about women's events in the south, doing all we can to help players get more involved, and providing opportunities for taking part in women's skills days and tournaments.

As a kickstart, we have two treats for you; a report & photo from the women's skills day in London in March 2005, and a list of contacts for anyone wanting to get involved with their local women's team or to find out more about any other events. Please make the most of these and stay in touch with each other!
